Plot

Ship engineer Jim Taggert survives a torpedo attack and is rescued by Joe Morgan, a gangster turned fisherman hiding out on a secluded South American island. Morgan operates from the Halfway House, a bar and dance venue run by Maria Styx’s parents, catering to local planters. Taggert soon realizes he and a group of American entertainers are trapped there. As he follows Morgan's clandestine dealings in a hidden cove, Taggert uncovers a shocking secret: Morgan is supplying U-boat commanders with sabotaged torpedoes designed to explode at sea, sinking the very submarines they were intended for.
