Plot
Carl Brown and Annie McGairy share a deep love, rooted in their families' shared Irish immigrant history. However, Carl's parents disapprove of Annie, viewing her impoverished upbringing as a barrier to their son's future. Defying expectations, Annie elopes with Carl while he’s away at college, but their marriage faces numerous challenges. A disapproving dean complicates their academic lives, while Carl’s jealousy and parental anger create tension. Annie also grapples with her own struggles regarding her sexuality, testing their bond as they navigate the complexities of love and societal pressures.
