Plot

Isak Borg, a grumpy retired physician, embarks on a journey from Stockholm to Lund, Sweden, accompanied by his discontented, expectant daughter-in-law, Marianne, to accept an honorary award from his former university. During their trip, they pick up a variety of hitchhikers, each interaction prompting Isak to reflect on the highs and lows of his existence. Among them is the spirited young woman, Sara, who bears a striking resemblance to Isak’s first love, stirring memories of his past and prompting deeper introspection about his life choices.
