A young woman from the countryside travels to Belém to participate in the vibrant Círio de Nazaré festival. Drawn into a world of prostitution, she dreams of a better life in Brazil's affluent Southeast. At a dance club, she meets a truck driver who transports wood, and she seizes the opportunity to hitch a ride with him along the Trans-Amazon road. As they navigate the journey, the film powerfully highlights the harsh realities of Amazonian life, including forest fires and child exploitation. Though initially banned by Brazilian censors, it later garnered accolades, including the Brasília Film Festival award in 1981.
