The Rite (1969)

Plot

A judge in a nameless country interrogates three actors—Sebastian, Thea, and Hans—regarding a controversial performance that could lead to legal repercussions. Each actor grapples with intricate personal issues: Sebastian, a troubled alcoholic burdened by guilt over his ex-partner's death, is entangled in an affair with Thea, who is emotionally volatile and married to Hans. Hans, the wealthy leader of the troupe, grows weary of the drama surrounding him. As the judge exploits their vulnerabilities, the trio devises a plan to reclaim their power through a private enactment of The Rite, seeking both catharsis and revenge.
