Plot
Career Army officer John Paul Vann struggles to ascend beyond the rank of colonel due to unresolved issues from his past. His deployment to Vietnam as part of the military advisory team presents an opportunity for advancement, yet he openly criticizes the war’s execution. This defiance leads to his dismissal from the military. Undeterred, Vann returns as a civilian, where he finds himself increasingly disillusioned with certain South Vietnamese leaders. Meanwhile, he assumes command of U.S. troops and maintains relationships with local women, navigating the complexities of war and personal ambition.
