A Lost Letter (1954)

Plot

Set in 1883 Romania, a small town's corrupt elite orchestrates the selection of their "elected" Senate representative. Chaos ensues when a love letter from the bachelor mayor to the wife of the local party chief gets misplaced and subsequently discovered by an inebriated party supporter. The opposition seizes this opportunity, using the letter for blackmail against the entrenched power players, determined to secure their own candidate for the county.
