In the sweltering summer of Los Angeles, heightened security measures put immigrants under scrutiny as Homeland Security hunts for alleged terrorists. Mustafa, an Egyptian immigrant and falafel shop owner, finds himself in the crosshairs of an FBI investigation. Meanwhile, he grapples with family tensions: his teenage son rejects his Muslim identity, and his sister resists an arranged marriage to a cousin, instead pursuing her own love interest. Amidst these personal struggles, Mustafa's employee Omar yearns for more than roles as a terrorist in his acting career, while Mustafa dreams of a restaurant partnership with Sam, a Jewish man facing familial disapproval. How far will they go for the American dream?
