Plot
Amidst the oppressive atmosphere of fascist Italy in 1935, a painter who also studied medicine finds himself banished to a secluded area near Eboli. As he grapples with his solitude, he gradually discovers the rich culture and profound insights of the local peasants. Their resilience and way of life inspire him, transforming his outlook and leading him to embrace the simplicity and depth of their existence, ultimately bridging the gap between his past and newfound appreciation for community.
