Plot

Nicky Nelson, a slick sideshow barker on Atlantic City's boardwalk, struggles to keep his show afloat despite his friend Gene Krupa's band performing nearby. When the landlord shuts him down for unpaid rent, Nicky desperately pitches Krupa's band to Stephen Hanratty, the Dance Pavilion head, but is dismissed. Amidst this chaos, he encounters the savvy singer Lily Racquel. Although she sees through his facade, she senses his potential to help her secure a radio audition. In a twist of fate, Nicky loses the financial ring she provided during a risky dice game.
