Plot

July 1941 marks the onset of the German invasion, pushing an Italian soldier, a seasoned veteran of colonial conflicts, to the front lines in the Soviet Union. As he journeys across Europe by train, memories of his mother’s enchanting Russian fairy tales resurface. These nostalgic reflections contrast sharply with the harsh reality that awaits him on the expansive Ukrainian plains, where both enemy forces and a relentless winter lie in wait. The story draws inspiration from the harrowing experiences of numerous Italian soldiers during this tumultuous period.
