Yoshito's childhood revolved around his mother, Yasue, and their beloved yakiniku restaurant, a legacy from his late father. Their lives turned upside down when a well-known food critic, Furuyama Tatsuya, published damaging reviews, leading to a decline in customers. Despite Yasue's relentless efforts to revive the business, she ultimately decided to close the restaurant due to Yoshito's need for her attention. Fast forward eighteen years, Yoshito is now a solitary freelance writer. When he begins working with editor Takenaka Shizuka on a yakiniku assignment, he receives distressing news that his mother has collapsed.
