Set in the 1920s, a Greek village under Turkish occupation prepares for its annual Passion play. The local leaders, guided by the Patriarch, select villagers for key roles: a stuttering shepherd becomes Jesus, while the ambitious butcher is cast as Judas, and the town's prostitute takes on the role of Mary Magdalene. As the performance approaches, real-life tensions escalate when a group of war-displaced villagers, led by their priest, arrives seeking refuge. The affluent townspeople, fearing their presence, conspire to orchestrate a massacre, blurring the lines between the play and their grim reality.
