A gay poet embarks on a cross-country journey from New York City in his convertible, picking up a muscular bisexual sailor along the way. Their adventure is soon joined by Jackie, a diner waitress who finds herself drawn to the poet, despite his disinterest in romance. Her rejection only deepens her fascination. While the poet and sailor share a physical connection, Jackie's attraction wanes due to the sailor's aggressive advances. As they traverse various landscapes, from bustling cities to desolate deserts, the trio arrives at a lake, leading to a tense question of who will ultimately be excluded.
