Protest singer Klaus Drittemann finds himself an outcast in East Berlin, forcing him to flee to the West, leaving behind his wife and child. Eager to capitalize on his defection, an American record label awaits him in West Berlin, but Klaus feels uncomfortable being treated as a mere asset. Choosing not to sign the contract, he embarks on a journey to Cambridge to reconnect with his estranged father, a former concert performer who left East Berlin decades earlier. Accompanied by Emma, a young French journalist with her own secrets, Klaus navigates the complexities of his new reality.
