Plot

Will Hay stars as the oblivious Director General of the National Broadcasting Group (NBG), completely unaware that audiences find his programming too pretentious. Upon realizing the public's discontent, he takes decisive action by elevating Jimmy, his Head of the Complaints Department, to Programme Director. Eager to cater to viewers, Jimmy aims to create a series of dazzling variety shows, but he quickly encounters various hurdles. Complicating matters further, he discovers a motley crew of aspiring stars within the NBG, each eager to showcase their talents, adding chaos to his ambitious plans.
