Sydney Schanberg, a journalist for the New York Times, is in Cambodia reporting on the Civil War, aided by his local interpreter, Dith Pran, and American photographer Al Rockoff. As the situation deteriorates and U.S. forces withdraw, Schanberg attempts to secure a safe escape for Pran and his family. However, Pran chooses to remain in Cambodia to document the chaos, a choice that could lead to dire consequences as the Khmer Rouge forces begin to take control.
