Two men, a century apart, embark on parallel quests for liberation. In 1856, Samuel Woodward, an enslaved man, escapes the Monroe Plantation in Virginia with his family, aided by the Underground Railroad. As they flee north towards Canada, the relentless slave hunter Plimpton pursues them, forcing Samuel to grapple with the choice between vengeance and true freedom. Meanwhile, in 1748, John Newton, a slave trader, transports Samuel's great-grandfather from Africa to America. This fateful journey profoundly alters Newton’s perspective, ultimately sparking a legacy that will resonate through generations, inspiring Samuel and countless others.
