Lilies of the Field (1963)
Plot
An out-of-work construction laborer traveling west makes an unexpected stop at a secluded desert farm to cool down his overheating car. There, he encounters a group of East European Catholic nuns, led by a stern mother superior. Convinced that this man is a divine messenger, she insists that he is destined to construct a much-needed church in their barren surroundings. As he grapples with his own uncertainties, the nuns’ unwavering faith challenges him to embrace his purpose and contribute to their spiritual mission.
