Plot

King Louis XI dons the guise of a commoner to uncover the treachery within his realm. While at a Parisian tavern, he hears the audacious poet François Villon proclaiming his superiority as a monarch. Intrigued, Louis appoints Villon as Grand Constable, thrusting him into a world of power and romance as he becomes infatuated with a beautiful lady-in-waiting.
