Plot

In Doris Dörrie's quirky comedy, "The Fisherman and His Wife," a mutual passion for fish ignites a series of romantic entanglements. German entrepreneurs Otto (Christian Ulmen) and Leo (Simon Verhoeven) run a thriving koi import business. During a trip to Japan, they encounter Ida (Alexandra Maria Lara), a German fashion design student, who unexpectedly falls for the scruffy Otto rather than the dashing Leo. After discovering she’s pregnant, Ida marries Otto, but their happiness is short-lived when she tries to contribute to the business with koi-themed scarves. Tensions rise as Leo starts his own koi venture with his new wife, Yoko (Young-Shin Kim).
