Jonas Mekas, revered as the "godfather" of avant-garde cinema, spent over 70 years capturing his experiences through diary films. Arriving in New York City in 1949 as a displaced person and continuing until his passing in 2019, he documented the pain of exile while fostering independent filmmaking in America. Fragments of Paradise offers an intimate glimpse into Mekas's life and artistry, utilizing thousands of hours of his personal video and film diaries, alongside previously unseen tapes and recordings. It explores his quest to uncover beauty in the midst of deep sorrow, all through the lens of his camera.
