Plot
James Martin and Carol Wall are set to run away together, but their plans unravel when a confrontation with her father's solicitor results in a mysterious murder. With Martin wrongfully accused, he flees to South Africa, desperate to evade capture. An accident there leaves him disfigured, prompting his return to England to prove his innocence, counting on his altered appearance to keep him under the radar. However, his past quickly catches up with him, as familiar faces recognize him, complicating his quest for redemption and truth.
