Plot
Set in 1800s Bristol, Java Head follows the tumultuous lives of the owner’s two sons. The dashing seafarer longs for a local girl, yet their families' feud prevents their union. Upon returning from a long voyage, he surprises everyone by bringing home an exotic Chinese noblewoman, igniting scandal in their conservative community. Meanwhile, his more timid brother, disinterested in sailing, plans to transition the family business to steamships, much to their father's dismay. Complicating matters further, he secretly engages in smuggling, setting the stage for conflict and drama in their lives.
