This tale of camaraderie and kindness intertwines two significant historical events that strengthened the bond between Japan and Turkey. On the night of September 16, 1890, the Turkish frigate Ertuğrul encounters a violent typhoon and sinks off the coast of Japan. Local villagers, despite their own hardships, bravely risk their lives to rescue 69 Turkish sailors, generously sharing their meager food supplies with these distant strangers. Fast forward 95 years to the Iran-Iraq War, where over 300 Japanese find themselves stranded in Tehran. On the morning of March 19, 1985, a Turkish Airlines plane departs for Tehran to evacuate them, but convincing the remaining Turks at Mehrabad Airport to trust in the rescue plan proves challenging.
