Plot

Mary Ingles is expecting a child when she and her two sons are taken captive from their home in Virginia's Blue Ridge Mountains by Shawnee warriors. Her husband, Will, narrowly avoids being killed in the raid. Impressed by Mary's resilience during their captivity, Wildcat, the Shawnee chief, grants her and her children special privileges and proposes that she become his partner. Although she feels an unexpected attraction to the handsome chief, Mary chooses to stay loyal to Will and devises a plan to escape. After being separated from her boys, she teams up with another settler woman for a dangerous journey back home. Years later, her long-awaited reunion with her children finally takes place.
