The Thousand Plane Raid (1969)

Plot

Colonel Greg Brandon, stationed with the 103rd Bomb Group in England during 1943, fervently advocates for a large-scale daylight bombing strategy to expedite World War II's conclusion. Despite the perilous nature of the mission, his plan targeting a German aircraft factory is approved. Tensions rise as Brandon insists on continuing routine bombing operations, alienating his crew and straining relationships, including with his girlfriend, WAC Lieutenant Gabrielle Ames. When his own bomber crashes before the raid, he joins a mission piloted by Lieutenant Archer and RAF Wing Commander Trafton Howard, ultimately gaining respect for their bravery and leadership during the successful assault.
