Plot

Dick Proenneke, after retiring at 50 in 1967, embarked on a remarkable journey to construct a cabin in the heart of the Aleutian Peninsula, now part of Lake Clark National Park. Capturing his experience on color film, he recounts his decision to settle in this secluded area, the careful selection of his homestead, and the meticulous process of building a log cabin entirely by himself. The documentary offers an intimate glimpse into his first year in the wild, documenting his daily routines and the changing seasons as he learns to thrive in solitude.
