Plot

Set in 1794 Marseille, Desiree Clary, a young millinery clerk, develops a deep affection for the ambitious Napoleon Bonaparte. However, her fate takes a different turn when she marries General Jean-Baptiste Berandotte, an aide to Napoleon who eventually contributes to the Emperor's decline. Meanwhile, Josephine Beauharnais, a sophisticated courtesan, secures her place as Napoleon's wife and Empress of France, but faces rejection when she fails to bear him an heir, highlighting the turbulent personal lives intertwined with the era's political upheaval.
