Plot
Ivan Kouznetsoff, a Russian engineer, reflects on his time in England before World War II, where he worked on innovative propeller designs for icebreakers. Initially, he views the British as superficial and hypocritical, leading to awkward interactions with his hosts, especially Ann Tisdall, whose family business will utilize his work. As Ivan spends more time in England, he discovers the depth of British humor and resilience. His perceptions shift, fostering a friendship with the locals, particularly Ann, while a burgeoning romance blossoms amidst the backdrop of impending war as Germany threatens Russia.
