Plot
Nella, a beleaguered housewife and mother, finds a renewed sense of purpose when she becomes involved with the Women's Voluntary Service in Barrow-in-Furness amidst World War II. Her involvement brings joy and camaraderie, but this uplifting chapter in her life is abruptly disrupted when her son Cliff enlists in the military. His departure ignites a tense and emotional clash with her husband, Will, forcing Nella to confront the harsh realities of war and her role within her family.
