Plot

Viscount Tony Pym cleverly secures a leave from National Service, claiming he's running as a Tory candidate for a family-held seat. His true motive is to marry his affluent American fiancée before she leaves England. However, his scheme unravels as he unexpectedly gets caught up in an election and loses to Labour's Mr. Cleghorn, who is later elevated to peerage. To salvage his reputation, Pym decides to run again, this time as a socialist, leaving their devoted, conservative butler, Mr. Beecham, wrestling with the chaos unfolding in the household.
