Through a haunting lens, Benning explores the darker aspects of American culture by delving into the lives of two infamous murderers. Ed Gein, a Wisconsin farmer active in the 1950s, is notorious for his gruesome acts of murder and the macabre practice of taxidermy on his victims. Meanwhile, in 1984 California, teenager Bernadette Protti committed a shocking act of violence, fatally stabbing a friend in a fit of rage over a perceived insult.
