In Kenya’s national park, game warden George Adamson and his wife Joy nurture three orphaned lion cubs. When the two larger cubs are relocated to a Dutch zoo, the smallest, Elsa, remains with the couple. Trouble arises when Elsa is accused of triggering an elephant stampede in a nearby village. John Kendall, the chief warden, insists that Elsa must either be trained to adapt to the wild Serengeti or face the prospect of being sent to a zoo. The couple grapples with the dilemma of Elsa's future and her rightful place in the wild.
