Jeffrey opens up to Nadine about Laurie's struggles with schizophrenia and the loss of his son. Meanwhile, Aaron and Camille are consumed by the sorrow of their impending divorce. A tragic accident during a circus performance lands several members of a trapeze artist family in critical condition at the hospital. One of Aaron's previous patients reveals his prejudice by refusing Nadine's help to remove his diseased gall bladder, insisting only Aaron or another Jewish surgeon can operate. Amidst this chaos, Jeffrey spirals when a wild night out leads to a wrongful arrest for solicitation and vandalism over a parking dispute. Phillip misinterprets Aaron's anger towards a patient—just after losing another young life in surgery—as issues with Camille and threatens to fire her if it happens again.
