Commissioner William Regal has joined forces with The Alliance, and with "Stone Cold" Steve Austin reclaiming the WWE Championship, CEO Linda McMahon steps back in to deliver a major setback to the WCW and ECW alliance by appointing a new WWE Commissioner. Meanwhile, Rob Van Dam takes on Chris Jericho for an opportunity to challenge The Rock for the WCW Championship.
