Shafilea Ahmed entered the world in July 1986 in Bradford, West Yorkshire, born to Farzana while her taxi driver father was still wed to a Danish woman with whom he had a son. Under pressure from a relative in Pakistan, he married Farzana, who was also his cousin, despite the irony of his own arranged marriage. The family later relocated to Warrington, a town that boasted a small but established Asian community.
