Following Caesar's death, Antony and Octavian temporarily split control of the empire. However, only one could ultimately claim the title of Caesar's successor. A decade later, Octavian, known for his brilliant strategy, engaged in a pivotal naval confrontation at the Battle of Actium against Antony, who had allied himself with Cleopatra.
