Sam Wendell, a seasoned forger, collapses from a heart attack while being chased by an enigmatic priest, leaving behind a minor forgery. Sam had claimed to his wife that it held the secret to great wealth. Soon after, the priest attempts to infiltrate the Wendell home. Lovejoy steps in to help Sam's widow, who is struggling financially, as he seeks to uncover any hidden treasures. In a clever twist, Lovejoy dons a priest's attire to aid in his investigation.
