The U.S. government's alien detection initiative is back on track. They’ve preserved Wes Tarber's body, once occupied by the Nodulian Kres, and have brought in Zan, who is posing as "Dr. Armstrong," to bring him back to life. Zan successfully revives him by injecting the essence of Ramel, who missed his chance at a body during the initial takeover due to a lack of humans on the train. Zin is after files in the complex and enlists Ramel’s help to gain access but ends up killing the nervous general he was bribing. Meanwhile, Cole studies Mel's grandmother's key, which seems to unlock a mysterious "door" beneath the Watchfire. Ramel confronts Cole, seeking revenge for his brother’s death, but Cole manages to flee. He infiltrates the complex, discovering that a Vardian ship, piloted by an "Arkin," crashed in Lake Michigan. A "Dr. Milos Sandborn" questioned the alien
