Episode Overview

When Alex, a new African-American student, expresses his desire to present on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., his teacher insists that the subject has already been addressed. As events unfold, Martin unintentionally backs Alex's argument, which leads to him being targeted in a hate crime—his car vandalized with offensive slurs. Determined to seek justice, he decides to leave the markings intact until the perpetrator is identified. Meanwhile, Ruthie tries to submit an old essay she wrote three years prior for her own presentation, hoping to recycle her previous work.
