Michael Portillo continues his railway journey through Thailand, guided by his 1913 Bradshaw’s handbook. He steps into the boxing ring with the renowned trainer Master Toddy to try his hand at Muay Thai, aiming to master the cobra-inspired right hook. Summoning his bravery, Michael faces his fear of snakes by assisting in a procedure on a lethal king cobra. He learns about the crucial efforts of Bangkok’s Queen Saovabha Memorial Institute, founded by the royal family in response to a young princess's tragic death. Traveling south to Hua Hin, Michael delves into the Southern Railway's history and discovers how royal support sparked the modern Thai tourism boom. At the Palace of Love and Hope, established by King Rama VI, he meets the niece of the current king, Rama X, to discuss an exciting restoration initiative.
