Kristen's parents unexpectedly show up to spend some time with her, and their presence drives her up the wall. Charlie remarks that Kristen is just like her mother, to which she vehemently disagrees. Ellie points out to Charlie that he resembles Gene, a perpetual dreamer, but he insists he knows exactly where he stands. Meanwhile, Griffin is determined to win over Claudia, who isn't fond of him. Julia feels envious, and Griffin shares that he misses having a little sister, which makes Claudia develop a crush on him. After scoring 900 on his SATs, Bailey's teacher flirts with him while offering private lessons. He retakes the test and ends up with the same score. Reflecting on their parents' past, Charlie encourages Bailey to apply for college, prompting him to write about their mother in his application essay.
