Heather invites both of them to her studio session for her upcoming album, The System Sucks, revealing the harsh realities of the music industry through her diligence and her producer's intensity. Meanwhile, Julie’s feelings for Eric become increasingly clear as she playfully pesters him over the phone, gets jealous of his girlfriend Missy, and even surprises him in bed one morning under the guise of discussing "pancakes." Eric seems to reciprocate her interest, especially when he tries to impress her during her hip-hop dance class, leaving Julie thrilled by his attention and effort.
