As Cliff approaches his 48th birthday, he becomes determined to uncover his gift before the big day. Clair, enlisting the help of the children, devises an elaborate ruse to keep him in the dark. In a clever twist, Cliff is completely taken in and remains oblivious to the exciting surprise planned for him: a trip to Lena Horne's exclusive club. Lena Horne appears as herself, with Clarence Williams III portraying Clarence Thornehill. In this twelfth episode, Cliff mentions that his birthday falls in October.
