Mr. Benn (1971)

Episode Overview

While observing some workers fixing his road, Mr. Benn finds himself thinking about the impressive roads built by the Romans. He decides to visit the costume shop, where he tries on a Roman Gladiator outfit. Upon stepping through the changing room door, he finds himself transported to ancient times, right by a road under construction. There, he meets his old friend, Smasher Lagru, who tells him they’re making the road for the Emperor’s Arena. Suddenly, the Emperor arrives, praises the workers, and invites Smasher and Mr. Benn to watch the Gladiators in battle. Mr. Benn sees this as a chance to save the fighters and convince the Emperor that such violence is foolish.
