Grace is determined to set boundaries when her older sister Janet, known for her rebellious spirit and freeloading ways, arrives in town to kick off her new jewelry venture at a makeshift subway stand. However, Grace’s tough love leads Janet to embrace a more conventional lifestyle with a corporate job and a studio apartment, leaving Grace struggling to accept her sister’s transformation. At the same time, Karen continues to reject Lyle’s marriage proposals until an unexpected visit from Lorraine makes her reconsider, as Lorraine expresses her discontent with Karen's “relationship” with her father.
