ASIO agent Madelaine Cruise is livid; she confirms Jim was on a covert mission and orders CO Mike Flynn to keep the ship under surveillance for any signs that Jim might need help. Dutchy later witnesses a violent altercation on deck, and when the boarding team arrives, they find a blood-soaked area with Jim lying beneath a tarpaulin, suffering from a serious head injury.
