Episode Overview

A father’s rejection of his newborn prompts Alex and Susie to suspect the mother, a schoolteacher, of having an affair with a 14-year-old student. Initially, both deny any involvement, but when the two run away together, it becomes clear the relationship likely began when the boy was just 13—on his birthday, in fact. Meanwhile, Joss and Kelly encounter a drunken man in the street, and Joss decides to take him home instead of arresting him, despite the objections of his Russian-speaking mother. The following day, Joss discovers the woman has no connection to the man at all. As Alex and Susie conduct surveillance, Alex makes a move on her, leading to an intimate night together, and Susie appears to have developed feelings for him. However, the next day, Alex learns that Jonesy is actually interested in Susie, prompting him to step back. When the schoolteacher’s husband arrives to take her and their baby home, tensions rise.
