Episode Overview

Tom is taken aback when his old friend Max Arnold shows up at the bank with a bizarre cheque written on the side of a cow. "It's legal tender," Max insists, challenging the bank's demands for mortgage payments. Times have changed in the countryside; bank managers no longer show leniency for missed payments. Tom approaches bank manager Kevin Sutton for assistance, but Sutton remains unmoving. Returning to an empty station with the phone ringing off the hook, Tom struggles to manage without Dash. As the Heelers learn about possible staffing cuts from St David's, tensions rise. To make matters worse, Chris informs Tom that the Vic Bank is shutting down, leaving them to question the future of Mt. Thomas.
